OMG Crock Pot Oatmeal – (It’s that good!)

I found this Crock Pot recipe on

and made it for the family the other day to RAVE reviews!

OMG Crock Pot Oatmeal

  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 1 Tbls butter
  • 4 cups water (or liquid of choice including apple juice) 
  • *Note – I used 3 cups hot water and 1 cup Vanilla Soy Milk*
  • 1 – 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
  • Seasonings of choice (optional – cinnamon)


Saute the oats in butter until slightly brown and nutty smelling (5 – 7 minutes)

Mix Steel Cut Oats, 4 cups Liquid, and salt, if using, in a bowl (like Corning Ware that WILL FIT in your crock pot)

Put some water in your crock pot and carefully lower the bowl with the oats into the water bath. You don’t want the water in the crock pot to overflow into your oats, try to matching the water level outside to that of the liquid/oats inside. Your bowl may get a hard water line on the outside that will come off in the dishwasher.

Cover and Cook on low overnight. In the morning you will have creamy oatmeal and can add your favorite Toppings or Mix-Ins to it .

Topping/Mix-in Suggestions:

Peanut Butter & Jelly (maybe Bananas, Peanuts?) – Nutella or Almond Butter

Bananas, Pecans, Syrup, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon

A Scoop of canned real Pumkin with a dash of Pumkin Pie Spice (Pecans!?)

Apple Sauce (chopped apples?), Cinnamon (or Apple Pie Spice?), (Nuts!)

Dried fruit (cherries, raisins, cranberries) and almonds

Pinapple tidbits, mandarin oranges, sweetened coconut (toasted?), and pecans

A pad of butter (or margarine) and warm milk

The combinations are endless!


Want to really WOW some company or well-deserving children?

Try Oatmeal Brulee

 Fill a ramekin approximately half way with oatmeal (mixed with milk, cinnamon, and sugar–to your desired sweetness).

Add blueberries and fruit of choice (strawberries, raspberries, bleuberries, apples, etc…)

Cover with another layer of sweetened oatmeal to smooth out top.

Sprinkle with mixture of 1 Tbsp white sugar and 1 tsp brown sugar.

Broil 1-3 minutes, or until sugar forms caramelized crust.

This was on the Disneyland resort’s breakfast menu.  Sounds yummy!

I have a question – what is steel cut oatmeal and where can it be found?

HAHA – must be breakfast recipe time of the year. I just blogged a breakfast recipe of my own like 10 mins ago before visiting you!

those recipes sound wonderful! I love oatmeal

I have been doing crock pot oatmeat. We dried our own fruit this year so we have lots of goodies to toss in. I saw that you have a weight loss goal for your 40th birthday which is coming up on Tracey Monettes forum. I turn 40 in August and am working on the same goal. We should be weight loss buddies.

They say that muscle is heavier "by volume" than fat is, which means 5 lbs. of muscle takes up less space than 5 lbs. of fat within a body. I'm a believer. This totally explains how your clothes begin to fit better even though the numbers on the scale aren' t moving very fast.

This is GROSS. I know. But I'd rather see the fat HERE than on my body...

Each time we “resist” an urge to fall off plan or not exercise we strengthen our “resistance muscle” and each time we “give in” to temptation we strengthen our “give in muscle” making it easier to either "resist" or "give in" next time.
